The Law of At-Action
Sieg Weber, For the Daily Facts
I wanted to thank all of you who took the time to comment on last month’s article.
I received more comments than on any other article I’ve ever written. That tells me that we as business owners are looking for answers, support and acknowledgment for the decisions we are faced with. This article continues the theme. You don’t have to merely survive; you can thrive in today’s business environment.
The Law of Attraction - what is it, how does it work, why does it work for some and not for others? How can we use it in our businesses and our lives?
The definition of attraction, according to Webster: “the power of attracting or the feeling of being attracted”. The dictionary also considers “attraction” a noun and breaks it into syllables: at-trac-tion. Close, but no cigar. In my mind attraction implies movement, movement implies action, and the action (not the word action), is a verb. So let’s, for discussion’s sake, change the “Law” a bit and make it more meaningful. Instead of the Law of “Attraction”, I believe it should be the LAW of “AT-ACTION”.
Doesn’t that put a whole different meaning to it? Instead of insinuating that we can just sit on our butts “attracting”, waiting to have our wants and dreams fall into our laps, we immediately understand we have to take some kind of ACTION to achieve our goals and dreams (that answers why it doesn’t work for some people - action implies WORK). We need to be AT-ACTION! And by the way, Webster defines action as ” doing something towards a goal”.
I truly believe that we do “attract” situations into our lives. We cause them, or we allow ourselves to be put into them. Unintentionally? Of course. Nevertheless, they are a result of our thoughts. As I said in last month’s article, “THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS”. Our thoughts become our reality. By choice or by default, either way we create our situations through our thoughts. Be clear, our thoughts are not our reality, but they do create our reality. Our reality stems from the DECISIONS we make; and then, by the actions we take (or don’t take). DECISION is the driver here. The decision you make identifies the GOAL you want to achieve. Without making a decision, you have no way of knowing what action you should or can take.
We know how 2008 ended, but what happened yesterday does not dictate what will happen tomorrow. The year 2009 is just beginning, and who controls our future? We do! We have the power to write the headlines for Dec. 31, 2009. As a matter of fact, stop reading and write down the headline you want to read on Dec. 31, 2009. Put it up where you can see it every day. Eleanor Roosevelt is quoted as saying: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” What was your dream when you went into business? Is it still the same?
Think back to 2008. What was your goal at the beginning of the year? Did you have a plan, written goals, specific objectives you wanted to reach, regardless of what others were doing or saying? Or did you buy into the fear, pull back and prepare for the worst? Remember, a turtle only makes progress when it sticks its neck out. Thoughts become things. What were you thinking?
Right now you’re thinking; “OK, but…” Stop! No buts! Whatever comes behind the “but” is an excuse. You don’t need any more excuses. If your dreams are worth fighting for, get off your buts. “Buts” are your fears talking, fears that will destroy your dreams. What do we have to do to get rid of the fear? The answer is simple - make a decision. Fear is only a feeling. Fear is the anticipation of something happening in the future - it’s not reality. If you want to anticipate something, anticipate 2009 as your best year ever. How does that “feel”?
Change our thoughts, change our mindset, let go of the fear. A year ago we were all dancing on the tables “feeling” great about the economy - remember? What’s really changed? The fundamentals of business haven’t changed, the fundamentals of goal achievement haven’t changed, and neither have the fundamentals of success. The only thing that has changed is our thoughts regarding the economy. I’m not suggesting we hold our noses, close our eyes and jump, I am suggesting the only way to change our external circumstances is to change our internal beliefs.
Fear suppresses our intuition, and strangles our creativity. Acknowledging and understanding that fear is a “feeling” and not a reality will start changing our thinking, and will open up the resources of the universe to us. We will begin to think more clearly, we will make better decisions, and we will attract the situations that will lead us to the achievement of our goals.
Six steps to using the Law of AT-ACTION to change our business and our lives:
1. Acknowledge the fear and break through it by making a decision. Are you going to give up, or are you going to STEP UP?
2. Believe - in yourself, in your abilities, in your resourcefulness, and your creativity (don’t tell your God how big your troubles are, tell your troubles how big your God is)
3. Make a plan using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time defined - make it for the year, then break it down to the quarter, the month and the week)
4. Follow your plan. Don’t be afraid of moving slowly, be afraid of standing still - each week, follow your action plan.
5. Measure your progress. Are you on track, need to take a detour, make a change? Be flexible, be open minded - nothing should be cast in stone.
6. Educate yourself (read, find a mentor, get a coach, take a class - you don’t have to have all the answers, you just need to be resourceful and find them)
We will work through the current economic situation, we will come out on the other end much stronger, and the rewards will be that much sweeter for the effort. See you on the other side.

Power of Positive Thinking Day Off
November 18, 2008 by cyf

Every day I chug along in my day to day tasks during work, but lately I’ve been wanting to take a day off but not have it impact my vacation days or sick days. Not knowing how that would possible happen I just decided to put it out there and to be totally honest I completely forgot about it.
Today during my department’s meeting, we were assigned the task of creating an idea for an upcoming conference. So we all went chugging away - four of us in total - using our creativity to come up with the idea. After being judged against two other teams, our group was deemed the best idea. And amazingly enough our prize was a day off. How awesome is that.

I Imagine Me

I came across this beautiful affirmation informing me about imagining me. It confirms positivity in me and reaffirms how I should stand up and see beauty in the mirror when I see me. I thought of it as a good mid-week booster for all of us. It goes like this:
Imagine me loving what I see when the mirror looks at me cause I, I imagine me.
In a place, of no insecurities and I’m finally happy cause I imagine me.
Letting go of all of the ones who hurt me cause they never did deserve me, can you imagine me.
Saying no to thoughts that try to control me, remembering all you told me, Lord can you imagine me?
Over what my momma said, and healed from what my daddy did and I wanna live and not read that page again.
Imagine me, being free, trusting you totally, finally I can imagine me, I admit it was hard to see you being in love with someone like me, finally I can imagine me.
Imagine me
Being strong and not letting people break me down, you won’t get that joy this time around. Can you imagine me?
In a world nobody has to live afraid, because of your love, fear’s gone away, can you imagine me.
Letting go of my past and glad I have another chance and my heart will dance cause I don’t have to read that page again, cause I imagine me.
